What should be the bar spacing in a cage for a quaker parrot?
I finally found a good size cage for my new quaker parrot, but I don't if the bar spacing is good. What is the least bar spacing for a new bird cage?
You want a cage that is about medium size with 1/2 to 1 inch spacing. You can see when purchasing one.The cage should be big enough for the bird to stretch his wings with no problem inside the cage. Also don't forget to get perches that are made of concrete or wood so they can trim their beaks and claws on. Make sure the perches are big enough so the bird feet are relaxed not gripping the perch(where their claws wrap around and meet). Most new cages have tiny perches. I have purchase mine or take tree branches and made perches for my birds.(I strip the bark off for the birds safety). You can tell right away the difference from a parakeets cage and a parrots' cage. The pet store employee should help you if not check out a local breeder first. If you haven't purchase the cage yet check around because the pet store will charge you way more then say someone from the local Flea market or on a website like Craigslist. I have found one of my cages from Craigslist and it was only a few months old. The cost was half the price of a pet store. I have three birds one small parrot and the other two are large their cages fit their size and needs.
